Book Early for the Victorian Experience – Monday 2nd to Tuesday 3rd July 2012
This Experience has been developed with the continuing support of the South East Grid for Learning (SEGfL). It links closely with the teaching suggestions outlined in the QCA scheme of work for History:
- Unit 12: How did life change in our locality in Victorian times?
- 3. How did the arrival/expansion of the railways affect our area?
The railway and museum facilities at Tenterden are ideal venues to help pupils address and explore how and why those changes occurred.
The experience includes a return steam train journey from Tenterden to Northiam (approx. 75 minutes) in genuine Victorian carriages, Victorian entertainment in the form of a Punch & Judy Show, a visit to a Victorian Signalbox and a guided Treasure Hunt through the Colonel Stephens Museum, the railway museum here at Tenterden Station, dedicated to the life and work of Colonel Stephens, founder of the Kent and East Sussex Railway.
