News Release
7th May 2010

The Kent & East Sussex Railway in Tenterden has launched an appeal to raise £200,000 to double the capacity of its main carriage maintenance building at Tenterden station.

The expansion is needed to provide sufficient high quality trains to operate the current train time table which currently carries 90,000 passengers annually along the 10½ mile line between Tenterden and Bodiam. The project is also vital to the potential expansion of the railway which will see the current line extended to Robertsbridge in East Sussex.

Graham Baldwin, General Manager at the railway said, "The appointment of Tenterden based surveyors Price-Whitehead signals the start of the project which will enable the railway, which is Britain's finest example of a light railway, to grow and expand its current operations. This project is one of the largest investment projects undertaken by the railway in recent years and is vital to us as a leading tourist attraction in Kent and Sussex.

The railway hopes to raise the money required to complete the project through donations by members of the Kent & East Sussex Railway and from visitors using the railway.

You can donate to the Appeal online here
