Kent & East Sussex Railway Diesel Gala 26th & 27th June 2010.
The last weekend in June sees the return of the Diesel Gala to the K&ESR’s event calendar. Starring in this year’s event is the Great Central Railway’s class 27 D5401. As far as we know one has never travelled to the south eastern corner of Britain, and one has certainly never travelled to the K&ESR.
Joining the class 27 will be D6570 the railway’s resident class 33, DMMU, the Ford diesel, 0-4-0 Ruston Rowntree No1. Drewry shunter D2023, and a class 14.
An intensive timetable is planned for Saturday with the first service departing at 9:30am, then 10.30am then every 45 minutes. The first departure from Tenterden on Sunday is at 10.00am, and then every 30 minutes to Northiam, with connecting trains to Bodiam every 45 minutes.
Free cab rides on Rowntree No.1 at Tenterden are planned to enable visitors to see the front of the railway’s resident class 25 D7594 currently awaiting restoration.
Also on show should be the railway’s Class 08 3174 Dover Castle which is midway through a heavy overhaul as well as the GWR Railcar W20W.

On Sunday 27th there is a bus rally at Tenterden and Northiam with many examples of vintage and classic buses on display. A vintage bus service is connecting Tenterden Station with Headcorn and other buses are to lay on services connecting the railway with surrounding villages. All bus rides being free of charge. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO PUBLIC CAR PARKING AT NORTHIAM ON SUNDAY 27th JUNE.
Train ticket prices are not increased for the event so an adult hop on, hop off “rover” ticket costs just £12.80, child £7.80, seniors £11.80 and a family ticket just £34!
