Press Release 24 January 2011
Be the first to travel by steam train on a new railway line in Sussex
Junction Road Weekend - Saturday 19 March 2011 and Sunday 20 March 2011
There will be a unique opportunity for steam train lovers to be one of the first passengers to travel by steam along the recently laid one mile track west of Bodiam to Udiam.
The weekend is aimed at raising awareness for an exciting project made possible by the volunteers of the Rother Valley Railway who are rebuilding the missing track between Robertsbridge and the Kent & East Sussex Railway at Bodiam.
The nostalgic return train journey will be free for anyone purchasing a Rover ticket from the Kent & East Sussex Railway for either day.
As well as being part of an historic day, all rover tickets purchased for either day will allow unlimited travel on the Kent & East Sussex Railway for the day the ticket is valid giving passengers the perfect opportunity to hop off at stations between Tenterden and Bodiam to enjoy a variety of activities. There are plenty of shops and restaurants at Tenterden or why not visit the new Mill Toy and Pedal Car Museum at Northiam (which opens its doors for the first time on Saturday 19 March) or the majestic ruins of Bodiam Castle which are only a short walk from Bodiam station.
Rover Tickets for this weekend cost £16.00 for adults, £15.00 for seniors, children (3 – 15) £11.00 and a family rover ticket is £43.00. Discounted admission at Bodiam Castle with a valid Kent & East Sussex Railway ticket.
