Pensioners Treat
Take a nostalgic steam train journey with the Kent & East Sussex Railway between 28 and 30 June 2011 and if you are over 60 take advantage of the special price all day rover ticket for seniors which is only £9.50 (Usually £12.50).
Everyone travelling on the railway can enjoy a 21-mile relaxing steam train ride in beautifully restored carriages travelling through picturesque countryside between Tenterden, Northiam and Bodiam stations.
With a rover ticket you can hop off at different stations all day and enjoy the many different attractions on offer or choose to sit back and relax with something tasty from the onboard catering options.
Visitors can choose to pre-order a delicious cream tea or ploughman's lunch and if grandchildren come along there is a children's party box option available.
There will be a warm welcome for visitors choosing to dine in the railway's licensed refreshment rooms at Tenterden Station where you will find a choice of 'daily specials' and a special children's menu.
Why not combine your steam train ride with a walk along the idyllic high street in Tenterden with its beautiful Georgian and Victorian buildings; home to attractive boutiques, quaint antique shops and attractive cafes and restaurants.
Perhaps consider a visit to the south-east's newest attraction, The Mill Toy & Pedal Car Museum which can be found directly opposite Northiam station. Visitors presenting a valid Kent & East Sussex Railway ticket will be treated to £1 per person off the standard admission charge (Adults: £4.00, Senior Citizens: £3.50, Children: £3.00)
At Bodiam Station passengers can choose to take the short walk to Bodiam Castle, which is owned by the National Trust, and explore the romantic ruins, moat and impressive battlements and towers with their breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside.
For those who love to picnic, the railway offers an alfresco lunch option which must be pre-ordered. Your delicious picnic hamper will be ready to collect when you arrive at Tenterden station complete with napkins, cutlery and condiments. The price is £8.50 for adults and £4.40 for children.
The railway caters for disabled visitors and has special carriages fitted with ramped wheel chair access, wide aisles and moveable seating. There are toilets for the disabled at all three stations and allocated parking spaces at Tenterden Town and Northiam stations.
Tenterden and Northiam are situated on the A28 between Ashford and Hastings and both stations have spacious car parks which are free. Visitors who would like to start their journey at Bodiam can park at the castle for just £2 per day.
