10th Anniversary Celebrations at the K&ESR's Hoppers Weekend

On the 11th and 12th September, visitors to Bodiam station can enjoy a whole weekend of "opping nostalgia" as the Kent & East Sussex Railway hosts its tenth annual Hop Pickers Weekend. The event is open from 10.30am to 6:00pm each day. Saturday's evening entertainment is free to enter and the beer tent and BBQ will be open.

The Kent & East Sussex Railway in Tenterden has launched an appeal to raise £200,000 to double the capacity of its main carriage maintenance building at Tenterden station. The expansion is needed to provide sufficient high quality trains to operate the current train time table which currently carries 90,000 passengers annually.

Pensioner's treat, £7.50 a seat at the Kent & East Sussex Railway!

From 14 to 16 September 2010 anyone over 60 years of age can enjoy a great value day out when they visit The Kent & East Sussex Railway, as all Senior Rover tickets will cost just £7.50 each! (Usually £11.80). Visitors can enjoy a 21-mile nostalgic steam train ride in beautifully restored carriages on a journey through picturesque countryside between Tenterden and Bodiam Stations.

We need to raise £35,000 to restore the van in time for the National Service of Remembrance on 11 November 2010. The ‘Cavell Van’, built in 1919, is important in the railway preservation movement for being the prototype of a class of vans used for mail and luggage on express passenger trains from the 1920s.

dads delightThis special Father's Day treat includes a return journey on one of the Railway's stunning vintage steam trains and Dad can choose from a delicious homemade ploughmans lunch or cream tea, served to your private table and complemented with a bottle of the railway's very own beer, "Dad's Delight" (soft drink option available).

Also included in your dad's treat is a complementary caricature which will be drawn during your train ride and presented to Dad in order that he remembers his special day.

Relax on board and enjoy some quality time with Dad, as you take in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding countryside, interrupted only by the gentle chug of the steam engine.

There will be a choice of two trains from Tenterden station on Father's Day departing at 1:15pm and 3:30pm. Dads can choose to enjoy either a delicious homemade ploughmans lunch or a cream tea on either train.

At Bodiam station, the magnificent medieval castle is only a short walk away (please be aware you cannot visit the castle if travelling on the 3:30pm train) where visitors can step back in history as they explore the impressive battlements and towers, which offer breathtaking views across the countryside. Visitors presenting a valid Kent & East Sussex Railway ticket will be treated to discounted castle admission (Adults: £5 Children: £2.50)

Tenterden and Northiam are situated on the A28 between Ashford and Hastings and both stations have spacious car parks which are free. Please note that there is no parking at Bodiam Station so passengers are advised to park and ride from Tenterden or Northiam.

Normal admission prices: Adult £12.80, Senior Citizen £11.80, Child (3 - 15 years inc.) £7.80. Family Rover Ticket £34 2 adults + up to 3 children or 1 adult + up to 4 children.
