Nº. 146 - Bogie Bolster Flat Wagon PDF Print E-mail

Picture of No 146

This wagon is an ex-Bogie Bolster ‘C', of 30 tons capacity, converted by BR at Ashford Works in the 1960's as match wagon for crane Nº. 145 . It was numbered 083317 and, like its crane when towed, had a maximum speed of 25 mph. Once on the K&ESR its use in this role was limited and was thought to be of more use as a flat wagon to carry track panels for the Northiam extension. It entered the Carriage & Wagon workshop in December 1988 for conversion. All the bodywork, jib rest, chain lockers and other equipment were removed. The underframe was cleaned and painted and a new timber floor installed. The running gear was also overhauled at the same time.
