The original Kent & East Sussex Railway ran from Headcorn in Kent to Robertsbridge in East Sussex. Its sucessor, the heritage charitable Kent & East Sussex Railway Co. Ltd. currently operates steam train services over part of the original line, from Tenterden in Kent to Bodiam in East Sussex, a total of 10½ miles.
There is no possibility of restoring the line from Tenterden to Headcorn. The Rother Valley Railway is seeking to restore the line from Bodiam to Robertsbridge, some 3½ miles, and further details may be found on their own web-site www.rvr.org.uk. When the line is completed through to Robertsbridge, the Kent & East Sussex Railway Co. will consider running services over the whole, extended, line if there is an economically viable case for doing so. However, extending the service would require additional infrastructure on the existing K&ESR line (extended locomotive and carriage maintenance shops, signalling and possibly extra locomotives and coaches) which would have to be in place before services from Tenterden to Robertsbridge could be introduced.
