The History

21st September this year marks the 50th anniversary of the very last Hop Pickers train, the ‘Hoppers Special’ that carried hop pickers from London to Kent and East Sussex. It started at London Bridge and came onto the Kent & East Sussex Railway at Robertsbridge. In commemoration and in addition to our regular steam service, an 03 locomotive, similar to the engine that pulled the original Hop Pickers trains, will run during the weekend.

  • Beer Tent with local ales including a specially produced Limited Edition bottled ale by Rother Valley Brewery to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the last 'hoppers' train from London Bridge - 21st Sept 1958. Available from railway shops, at the event on 13th & 14th and the Refreshment Rooms, Tenterden at £2.80 a bottle or a three bottles together in a presentation pack for £7.50.
