This wagon is an ex-Bogie Bolster ‘C’, of
30 tons capacity, converted by BR at Ashford Works in the
1960’s as match wagon for crane Nº. 145. It was
numbered 083317 and, like its crane when towed, had a maximum
speed of 25 mph. Once on the K&ESR its use in this role
was limited and was thought to be of more use as a flat wagon
to carry track panels for the Northiam extension. It entered
the Carriage & Wagon workshop in December 1988 for conversion.
All the bodywork, jib rest, chain lockers and other equipment
were removed. The underframe was cleaned and painted and
a new timber floor installed. The running gear was also overhauled
at the same time.
